Medical Emergencies

Dr. Myles Riner ( 2011 ) stated that Medical Emergency is " the sudden onset of a medical conditions manifesting itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonably be expected to result in: placing the patient’s health in serious jeopardy, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.”

According to the American Emergency Physicians, there are warning signs for medical emergencies. Including

  1. Unstoppable Bleeding.
  2. sudden injury due to motor vehicle injuries, burns, etc
  3. Sudden sever pain
  4. Sudden dizziness, weakness.
  5. Shortness of breathing and difficulties of breathing.
  6. Change in mental status.
  7. Chest pain.
  8. Choking.
  9. Coughing up or vomiting blood.
  10. Loss of consciousnesses or fainting
  11. Head or spinal injuries
  12. Persistent vomiting 
  13. Upper abdominal pain.
Importance of Medical Emergencies.
  1. To prevent deaths.
  2. Reduce risk of permanent disabilities.
